March break
DCHP-2 (Oct 2016)
n. — Education
a school holiday in March for elementary and high school students, usually one week in length.
Type: 5. Frequency — Chart 1 indicates that the holiday is most commonly known as March break in Canada, as well as in Ireland and in Australia. Spring break, however, is the preferred term in the US (see Chart 2), though this term conflates the high-school and post-secondary holidays (see reading week), and is roughly as frequent as March break in Canada, Australia and Ireland (as indicated by the Frequency indices).
See also COD-2, which marks the term "Cdn". Not listed in Gage-5 or ITP Nelson.
